2) разг. успешно завершить какое-л. дело, 'провернуть' (что-л.) The director put the business deal across in record time. ≈ Директор провернул это дело в рекордно короткие сроки.
3) разг. убедить, довести до кого-л., заставить поверить Advertisements are intended to put across the best qualities of the product. ≈ Реклама придумана для того, чтобы рассказать всем про хорошее качество товара.
4) обманывать, надувать (кого-л.) The woman in the market put it across me by selling me some bad eggs. ≈ Торговка меня надула, продала тухлые яйца. перевозить, переправлять (на лодке, на пароме и т. п.) (разговорное) успешно завершить, "провернуть" какое-л. дело - to put a project across осуществить /завершить, закончить/ проект обманывать, надувать кого-л. - you can't put that across me тут уж ты меня не проведешь (разговорное) сообщить;
убедительно объяснить;
довести до кого-л. - he puts himself across well он хорошо выражает свои мысли - she * her new idea она (убедительно) изложила свою новую идею (американизм) (сленг) убить, укокошить, пришить, прикончить
