Водоворот (M51, NGC 5194/5195) — галактика в созвездии Гончие Псы, которая находится на расстоянии 37 миллионов световых лет от Земли. Диаметр галактики составляет около 100 тысяч световых лет. Галактика М51 (также известная как «Водоворот», Аrp 85 и VV 1) состоит из большой спиральной галактики NGC 5194, на конце одного из рукавов которой находится галактика-компаньон NGC 5195.

Галактика была обнаружена Шарлем Мессье 13 октября 1773 года.

В галактике было зарегистрировано две вспышки сверхновой: SN 1994I и SN 2005cs.
