2-амино-3-[4(4-гидрокси-3,5-дииодфенокси)-3,5дииодфенил]пропионовая кислота, йодсодержащий гормон щитовидной железы. Биосинтез Т. происходит в фолликулах щитовидной железы путем конденсации двух остатков молекул дииодтирозина, входящих в состав тиреоглобулина. Иодирование остатков тирозина (см. тирозин) осуществляется йодом, который образуется путем ферментативного окисления иодитов, поступающих в щитовидную железу вместе с кровью. Т. высвобождается в кровь при ферментативном гидролизе молекул тиреоглобулина в лизосомах фолликулярных клеток. В щитовидной железе Т. подвергается частичному деиодированию под действием фермента деиодазы с образованием 3,3',5-трииодтиронина. В крови Т. циркулирует в основном в виде комплекса с белками сыворотки (тироксинсвязывающий глобулин и преальбумин); в свободной форме Т. содержится в небольшом количестве. Метаболические превращения Т. осуществляются гл. обр. в печени и почках. Биосинтез и секреция Т. находятся под контролем гипофиза (см. тиреотропный гормон) и гипоталамуса (см. тиреолиберин). Нарушение секреции Т. приводит к тяжелым эндокринным заболеваниям (кретинизм, микседема, базедовая болезнь). Натриевая соль Т., полученная с помощью химического синтеза, а также препарат из высушенных щитовидных желез животных, содержащий Т., применяют в медицине.
