TGIF — акроним к фразе англ. Thank God it's Friday — Слава Богу, сегодня пятница, празднование последнего рабочего/учебного дня недели. Истоки этого акронима относятся к 60-м годам прошлого века. Это выражение стало популярным в 1965 году, когда открылся ресторан под названием T.G.I. Friday. Но основным фактором распространения этой фразы в англоязычных странах стал выход фильма с таким же названием в 1967 году[1].

 Также можно расшифровать Thank's Gregorius it's Friday, в дань папе римскому Григорию XIII, который ввел в взамен старого юлианского в католических странах.

В популярной культуре

  • 12 июня 2011 года на YouTube появился клип Katy Perry — Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.), в котором также приняла участие Ребекка Блэк.
  • Название серии популярного мультсериала Симпсоны «Thank God, It’s Doomsday» — это пародия на это высказывание.
