Sega Mega-CD — дополнение к игровой приставке Sega Mega Drive. В начале 1991 года Sega объявила о выходе Mega-CD в Японии в конце 1991 года и в Северной Америке (под названием Sega CD) в 1992 году[1]. Хотя дополнение содержало расширенные возможности графики и более быстрый центральный процессор, по сравнению с Mega Drive, главной чертой устройства являлось увеличение размера игр: в то время как картриджи содержали от 8 до 16 мегабит данных, в CD-ROM диск могли войти 640 мегабайт (5120 мегабит)[1]. Sega of Japan, заключив партнёрство с Sony, отказались проводить консультации с американским дивизионом Sega, до тех пор, пока проект не был завершён. Sega Mega-CD критиковалась из-за жёстких аппаратных ограничений; по всему миру было продано только 6 миллионов копий дополнения[2].
