The Sungai Temburong river flows through the district, and the Sungai Pandaruan river forms the western section of the border with Malaysia.Temburong is divided into five "mukim" (districts):

* Bangar
* Batu Apoi
* Bokok
* Labu

The Brunei's first national park, the Ulu Temburong National Park, is located south of the Temburong district, covering 550 square kilometres of the Temburong forest. The national park has a scientific research centre facility, the Kuala Belalong Rainforest Field Studies Centre, which can only be accessible by boat. An Outward Bound centre can also be found within the national park.

For visitors to the district, the Temburong Hash House Harriers provide a monthly run through the rain forest. [http://www.thehashhouse.org/genealogy/tree/ps06/ps06_175.htm] [http://www.geocities.com/Pipeline/Curb/1352/Brunei.htm#Temburong]
