Illinois Technology and Research Corridor

The Illinois Research & Development Corridor is an area located in northeastern Illinois. The corridor is primarily formed by Interstate 88 through DuPage County, but many companies and research centers are located throughout the Chicago area.

Companies

Numerous companies call Chicago their national headquarters, and others have major campuses located throughout the Chicago area.
*Abbott Laboratories, headquartered in North Chicago, is a pharmaceuticals and health care company.
*Acxiom, located in Downers Grove, is a customer and data information management company
*Affiliated Computer Services, located in Schaumburg, is a Fortune 500 company that provides information technology outsourcing
*BP, with a 50 acre North American chemicals headquarters in Naperville, is an international energy supplier, which specializes in chemicals, oil, and gas research at its Naperville campus. BP employs nearly 5,000 people in the Chicago area.
*Boeing Moved its headquarters to Chicago in 2006. A Fortune 500 company, Boeing is a global aerospace and defense company.
*Exelon, headquartered in Chicago, is a Fortune 500 energy supplier.
*Alcatel-Lucent, with a campus in Naperville and Lisle, is an international telecommunications company. In 2000, a $250 million expansion was completed including two twin convert|600000|sqft|m2|-4|sing=on buildings. Approximately 10,500 employees work on the campus.
*Microsoft is an international computer technology corporation with locations in Chicago and Downers Grove.
*Molex, headquartered in Lisle, is an electronic components manufacturer.
*Motorola, headquartered in Schaumburg, is a Fortune 500 international communications company.
*Telephone and Data Systems, headquartered in Chicago, is a Fortune 500 telecommunications service company.
*Tellabs, headquartered in Naperville, is a telecommunications company employing more than 4,000 people in Naperville.
*Whittman-Hart, headquartered in Chicago, is a digital communications service company.
*U.S. Robotics, headquartered in Schaumburg, is a computer modem manufacturer.

Educational Institutions

*Illinois Institute of Technology, with a campus in Wheaton, offers three degree programs in Information Technology and Management.
*DeVry University, headquartered in Oak Brook, offers numerous technical degrees throughout eight Chicagoland campuses.
*Northern Illinois University, located in DeKalb, Illinois just off Interstate 88, is the second largest institution of higher education in the State of Illinois in terms of enrollment. A satellite campus is located in Naperville.

Research Institutions

*Argonne National Laboratory, located on convert|1700|acre|km2|0 in Lemont, is the oldest national research institution in the United States, chartered in 1946. It contains several particle accelerators and a nuclear reactor, and employs 2,900 people. It is owned by the Department of Energy and operated by the University of Chicago.
*Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, located on convert|6800|acre|km2|0 in Batavia, was commissioned on November 21, 1967 by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. It is home to the world's highest energy particle accelerator, Tevatron. The accelerator was built in 1983 at a cost of $120 million, and was upgraded in 1994 at a cost of $290 million. It employs 2,100 people.
