Охрупчивание в условиях ползучести, например алюминиевых сплавов и сталей, в результате необычно низкой пластичности. В алюминиевых сплавах, чугуне превышение предела растворимости является причиной охрупчивания; в сталях этот феномен связан с высокой загрязненностью (например, фосфором, серой, медью, мышьяком, сурьмой, оловом). В том и другом случаях разрушение сопровождается межкристаллитным изломом.
