New Frontiers

New Frontiers — космическая программа НАСА для исследования наиболее загадочных и неизвестных районов Солнечной Системы. Стартовала в 2003 году. По этой программе осуществлено 2 запуска, дальше планируются еще.

Запуски

  1. 19 января 2006 года - запуск аппарата Новые горизонты. Он предназначен для исследований Плутона и пролетит мимо него 14 июля 2015 года. Попутно 28 февраля 2007 года проводил исследования Юпитера и его спутников.
  2. 5 августа 2011 года - запуск аппарата Юнона. Он предназначается для исследований Юпитера и его спутников с полярной орбиты. Предполагается что он достигнет Юпитера 16 октября 2016 года.
  3. 2017 год. Аппарат для запуска выбирается на конкурсной основе. В настоящий момент (январь 2011 года) в финальную стадию вышли три проекта:
    1. Venus in Situ Explorer - исследование Венеры с помощью орбитального аппарата, аэростата и посадочного зонда.
    2. Lunar Sample Return Mission - исследование Луны, возврат 1 кг грунта с южного полюса Луны.
    3. Comet Sufrace Sample Mission - исследование кометы, возврат образцов кометного вещества.
