January 29 ,1799 –June 18 ,1850 ) was aUnited States Senator fromNew Hampshire . His father,Jeduthun Wilcox , was aUnited States Representative from New Hampshire from 1813 to 1816.Born in
Hanover, New Hampshire , he graduated fromDartmouth College in 1817, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1820 and commenced practiced in Orford. He was a member of theNew Hampshire House of Representatives from 1828 to 1834, was judge of thesuperior court from 1838 to 1840, and a bank commissioner from 1838 to 1842.Wilcox was appointed as a Democrat to the U.S. Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of
Franklin Pierce . He was subsequently elected and served fromMarch 1 ,1842 , toMarch 3 ,1843 . He resumed the practice of law, was judge of the Court of Common Pleas of New Hampshire in 1847-1848, was again appointed judge of thesuperior court in 1848, and served until his death in Orford in 1850; interment was in the West Congregational Churchyard.References
