Waicoa Bay Stallions

Waicoa Bay Stallions

The Waicoa Bay Stallions were a franchise in the now defunct Bartercard Cup rugby league competition in New Zealand. They represent Waikato (Wai), Coastlines (Coa) and the Bay of Plenty (Bay). This is a vast area that includes Hamilton, Rotorua and Taupo. As a result they share their home games around several different stadiums. The Ngongotaha Chiefs had previously represented part of this area in the competition.

They were coached by former international Tawera Nikau in their debut year.

New Zealand Warriors previously assigned to the club include Lance Hohaia, Wairangi Koopu & Sam Rapira. There most notably local product was Isaac John.

The Stallions joined the competition in 2004, replacing the Taranaki Wildcats. They were not disgraced in their first year, performing well for a new club and securing four wins and two draws. However in their second season they could only manage three wins and ended up collecting the Wooden Spoon. In 2006 they missed the finals again, finishing eighth out of ten teams.
