Число, связанное с прилагаемой нагрузкой и площадью отпечатка в поверхности, сделанного пирамидальным алмазом с квадратным основанием имеющим угол внедрения 136°, число вычисляется как:
HV = 2Psin (0,5α/d2) = 1,8544Р/d2,
где Р - прилагаемая нагрузка (кгc)
d - средняя диагональ отпечатка (мм)
α - лицевой угол индентора (136°).
